At Staff Boom, we are committed to ensuring that each and every one of our employees receives the recognition and appreciation they deserve for their outstanding contributions. Our Quarterly Employee Spotlight series serves to showcase the exceptional talents within our team and celebrate their successes. This quarter, we are thrilled to shine a well-deserved spotlight on Michael Haroutunian and all that he has accomplished. Join us in congratulating him!

Michael Haroutunian is the Controller at Staff Boom. He joined in 2017 bringing over 8 years of accounting methods under Big 4 trained experts. In his current role at Staff Boom, he leads the company’s financial reporting, accounting, and internal controls. During this time, Michael carries on his goal to ensure that the company is provided with all the analytical and budgeting details it needs to grow and succeed. Michael enjoys playing soccer with friends and composing musical scores on his time off.

Craig Hewitt, Chief Financial Officer, and Michael’s direct supervisor had this to share when asked about Michael, “Michael continuously shows his dedication and commitment to the advancement of Staff Boom.  He is truly a valuable asset to the organization as evidenced by his “can-do” attitude and his ability to support the mission, vision and strategy of Staff Boom.”

To get to know more about Michael, we asked him some questions about himself and his time in the outsourcing industry world:

Q: When did you start with the company?

A: I joined in May 2017 as the Controller. My role encompasses overseeing financial, payroll, contractual, and some HR processes within the company, ensuring smooth operations and compliance across these critical areas.

Q: How did you come to the conclusion that the outsourcing industry is a good fit for you?

A: I’m always looking for ways to improve myself and Staff Boom provides the right challenges in ensuring I am consistently evolving as a person. The outsourcing industry provides an expansive number of options for companies previously unimagined – broadening the horizon to services across the world is what allows Staff Boom to thrive in areas where many other businesses may feel restricted. It has always been an intriguing and dynamic industry and one that caught my interest early on.

Q: If you were not in Outsourcing, what would you like to be doing?

A: I have hobbies in both Financial Trading and Music. While vastly different, both allow for creative outlets in their capacities, and I would likely have sought to involve myself in one of these industries should I not have taken the road down to accounting as a specialization.

Q: How has your role evolved over time since you’ve been here?

A: As the company has grown over time, my position has become more and more involved in the managerial side of Accounting and Finance, involving tasks that the team works together on rather than handling the work on my own. With the help of my skilled peers, I’ve learned to regularly complete a series of complex tasks as well as identify the key strategies that will allow our team to do our job best. My position continues to be a learning process, highly contingent on the stage of the company and its prospects.

Q: If you could sit down with your younger self, what is one piece of advice you would share?

A: I would tell myself to be more confident in my abilities and to inquire more on topics for which I am certain our very capable and knowledgeable team members would have helped me better work through a solution. It would have mitigated a lot of the stress that I felt taking on excessive responsibilities due to inexperience. Accountants largely work on their own in firms so proper and consistent communication has been a key learning point in my career.

Q: What’s something you do outside of work that would surprise your co-workers?

A:I like to on occasion play music with some family members and friends who play musical instruments – it’s always been an enjoyable time and an easy way to relax.

Outside of work I play competitive soccer over the weekends, do outdoor activities with friends and family, and play with my cat (Fluffy) 😊. I share very similar hobbies with my brother and close cousins, so we regularly like to hang out and take part in various events.

I also like to keep myself up to date with news and events around the world and talk with friends about the economic factors influencing the way the world operates today. Sometimes it interestingly plays in effect to circumstances which may impact Staff Boom directly or indirectly.

Q: What has been your most meaningful accomplishment?

A: In hindsight, I’d like to say one of the most meaningful ones was graduating from CSUN’s Accounting Department. The classes were very challenging and rigorous, and at some point, I was concerned it was going to be too overwhelming, but I was able to pull through and it taught me a lot of both hands-on and conceptual information which I used in various capacities later in my career, even to this day.

Thank you, Michael, for all your hard work. We appreciate the invaluable contribution you have made to the growth and success of this company. We look forward to many more years of growing with you!
